I’d love to take this opportunity to wish you a wonderful festive season – and all the very best for 2023.
If you’ve got a few moments amongst the mince pie eating, here are some great blogs and videos to read and watch:
Blogs of the month
Here, Dani Schnider asks: ‘What are the design rules for good performance in a star schema in an Oracle database?’
This is the first post in a series, and this one is about constraints and indexes.
2. Weblogic Server is Too Slow
Bugra Parlayan writes, “In Oracle Weblogic, sometimes our services open slower than expected, even if it is opened, the “7001/console” screen makes us wait. I did a little research on some servers not having these waits on some servers.”
He goes on to tell us how to make the wait time shorter!
3. Oracle EDM: Using Reference Dimensions
Kate Helmer (aka Hyperion Barbie) goes through:
- Setting Up a Reference Dimension
- Reference Dimension Limits Explained

5. from 200 active sessions down to 2 – no silver bullets
This blog begins with:
“Recently I had some fun with an Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud control installation (13.5.0.10). The Repository is 19.15 in a MAA Gold configuration: RAC and DataGuard, also the OEM has 2 WLS nodes with a load balancer in front. The system was not available for some hours (nothing to blame the architecture, and nothing I can discuss here). After everything was working again, the Average Active Sessions on the repository were quite high: around 200. It was clear there was a lot of work to be processed, all the events coming in from the agents to be collected, aggregated and so on. Still that load was something to investigate and improve – if possible.”

This useful blog says, “This is a great feature in 19c, making life a lot easier to do large scale password changes without impacting applications.”
8. Cloudology Podcast: Big Data in a Nutshell Part 1
Jeffrey Thomas says, “In this series we will discuss the history of Big Data technologies and how they have impacted the Lakehouse Architectural pattern.”
9. Where should I put the Observer in a Fast-Start Failover configuration?
The video explains best practices and different failure scenarios for different observer placements. It also shows how to configure high availability for the observer.
10. Bursting Using Oracle Fusion
This blog starts by saying, “Bursting enables you to deliver a single report to multiple destinations simultaneously. By taking advantage of this feature, you can create a single report, then send it in any format (for example PDF,HTML etc.) to multiple destinations (for example Email,Portal or Printer etc.).This feature also enables you to improve performance, since you fetch the data only once for different destinations.”
It covers the Benefits of Bursting and the Steps to create the Data Model
