1. The definition of proof

Connor McDonald begins by saying, “One of the pieces of advice that I often see on the ‘net is that undo space is somehow this incredibly precious thing, and as a consequence, one should always keep the amount of uncommitted changes in the database to a small size.”

He goes on to say, “But here is the key thing. When you make a claim that something is “best practice” in all cases, then providing a single case does not meet the definition of proof.”

2. ODI Hidden Gems – Begin/End Mapping Command

This blog starts by saying, “Today’s short post is about a simple, but very powerful feature that often is overlooked: Begin/End Mapping Command. These options are in the Physical tab and, as their name suggests, they may issue any kind of command before a mapping begins and/or after it finishes.”

3. Oracle EBS Strategic Investments Detailed at OpenWorld 2019

“Cliff Godwin, Oracle’s Senior Vice President for Applications Development, reviewed the strategic investments the company is making into Oracle EBS during OpenWorld 2019. Although Oracle Corporation’s emphasis on Cloud ERP Applications is clear, Cliff Godwin promised users that the E-Business Suite will continue to provide “substantial value now and into the future.”

4. Enterprise Data Management (EDMCS): Consolidation & Close Adapter

Kate Helmer starts by saying, “Today we’re going on a deeper dive into the newly released Consolidation & Close (formerly known as FCCS) adapter within Enterprise Data Management (formerly known as EDMCS, now EDM).”

She goes through:

5. Cursor_sharing

Jonathan Lewis says, “Here’s a funny little detail that I don’t think I’ve noticed before – needing only a simple demo script.”

He concludes by writing, “It turns out that I have come across this before – and written about it

The same behaviour is shown by timestamp literals and interval literals. For details on the two types of literal here’s a link to the 12.2 SQL Language Reference Manual section on literals.”

6. Rounding Timestamp Values with Fractional Seconds

Marc Bleron opens with, “Lately, I had to deal with a timestamp value with an overly long sequence of decimal digits, coming as a string in ISO 8601 format.”

He says that the goal was, “to build an Oracle TIMESTAMP instance from this lexical representation, but rounded to 3 decimal places.”

7. LISTAGG() as a Cumulative Function

Stew Ashton writes, “LISTAGG() can be used as an analytic function, but cannot be cumulative. What does that mean, and is there a workaround? I’ll demonstrate with the boring old DEPT and EMP tables, just because they have so few rows, and I’ll keep only the department and employee names.”

8. How to export all your Oracle Cloud Infrastructure billing information

Rodrigo Jorge opens with, “As of today (October 2019), there is still no internal capability in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure to export the metadata of all the billing information you have in your OCI to a CSV, JSON or any other file that would allow us to easily import in other tools to create our own graphs. Meanwhile, I have some customers that work with OCI and have the requisite to create their own costs graphs and generate some linear regression estimates of future costs.”

10. Free Oracle Cloud: 13. Final things to take away

Dimitri Gielis says, “I’m really impressed by this free offering of Oracle and see many use cases for development environments and small to midsize applications. I believe the limits we get in the free plan are really generous of Oracle and much more than any other cloud provider.”
