It was very clear that Oracle and Gartner are not on the same track when it comes to the Analytics market. At that time there were various opinions between the different analysts. Jen Underwood wrote a nice article last year where she explored the results of the 2017 MQ.”

6. New look of ASMCA in Oracle 18
Anuradha Mudgal blogs:
“Oracle ASM Configuration Assistant (ASMCA) supports installing and configuring Oracle ASM instances, disk groups, volumes, and Oracle Automatic Storage Management Cluster File System (Oracle ACFS). In addition, you can use the ASMCA command-line interface as a non-GUI utility.
In Oracle 18c database, ASMCA comes up with new GUI interface which looks cool and easy to use. Mainly, we can navigate to all functionality from the sidebar.”
Franck Pachot says, “This is the big new feature of Oracle 18c about database software installation. Something that was needed for decades for the ease of software deployment. Piet de Visser raised this to Oracle a long time ago, and we were talking about that recently when discussing this new excitement to deploy software in Docker containers. Docker containers are by definition immutable images. You need a Read Only Oracle Home, all the immutable files (configuration, logs, database) being in an external volume. Then, to upgrade the software, you just open this volume with an image of the new database version.”
